- 2-(1H-Benzimidazol-2-yl)benzoic acid
2-(1H-Benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)benzoic acid is a primary amine that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their amino acid receptors. It has been shown to be active against a wide range of bacterial species, including Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella enterica. 2-(1H-Benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)benzoic acid is an efficient method for the synthesis of antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals that contain an ethyl group. The catalytic mechanism of this compound involves protonation at the carbon atom adjacent to the nitrogen atom on the imidazole ring, followed by nucleophilic attack by water. This process leads to formation of an oxime intermediate and release of ammonia as a product.
