3-Bromopropanenitrile (3BP) is a small molecule that has been shown to have agonistic activity against the adipocyte receptor, adiponectin. The potential of 3BP to be used as an anti-diabetic drug has also been explored, in particular its ability to lower blood sugar levels by inhibiting gluconeogenesis and enhancing glucose uptake. 3BP is an acrylonitrile derivative that is synthesized by alkylation of propanenitrile with bromine. It was found to be a potent inhibitor of population growth in E. coli K12.
