2-Bromo-3-methoxyaniline is a natural product that has been shown to inhibit the uptake of tryptophan and serotonin. It also inhibits the growth of cancer cells in vitro. 2-Bromo-3-methoxyaniline is not active against healthy cells and has no effect on the rat brain homogenate or uptake. The cytotoxic effects are due to its ability to reduce oxygen availability, which may result in cell death by apoptosis or necrosis. 2-Bromo-3-methoxyaniline also has anti-inflammatory properties and may be effective for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.
