Product Information
2-Bromo-4-methylpentanoic acid is an alkylating agent that binds to protein thrombin receptors. It is used in the synthesis of esters and amides, as well as in a variety of other organic syntheses. 2-Bromo-4-methylpentanoic acid can be converted to its enolate form by reaction with magnesium and subsequently reduced to produce an ethyl ester. The high yield of this reaction makes it an attractive alternative to the traditional methods for producing ethyl esters from ethyl chloroformate and alcohols. 2-Bromo-4-methylpentanoic acid has also shown some nonselective cytotoxicity against platelets, but not against erythrocytes or leukocytes.
