Inhibits binding of lymphocyte function-associated antigen 1 (LFA-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) surface integrins. The activity of lifitegrast on these proteins at the ocular surface leads to suppressed T-cell mediated inflammatory response involved in dry eye disease. This compound also has therapeutic potential for contact lens-related corneal infiltrates.
