Product Information
- 6-Bromo-2-phenylpyridine
2-Bromo-6-phenylpyridine (2BP) is an ancillary molecule that is reactive and tetradentate. It can be used as a building block for anticancer drugs, such as cisplatin. 2BP has been shown to induce cell apoptosis in cancer cells by binding to chloride ions, which are required for the function of certain enzymes called voltage gated sodium channels. This binding prevents the opening of the channel, which leads to a decrease in the influx of chloride ions. The uptake of 2BP into cells was also shown to be mediated by its functional groups, such as alkene and phenyl groups. 2BP's ability to inhibit cancer cell growth may also be due to its ability to bind DNA and inhibit transcriptional activity.
