2-Butoxyphenylboronicacid is an organic compound that is a structural analog of phenylboronic acid. It has been shown to have antiviral activity against influenza virus and other viruses, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and herpes simplex virus, through inhibition of the viral fusion process. This compound binds to the active site serine on the viral envelope protein, which prevents it from participating in the fusion process. 2-Butoxyphenylboronicacid also has lipidome-modulating properties and can bind to phosphatidylcholine, a major component of all cellular membranes. The binding causes an increase in membrane fluidity, which may result in increased permeability for drugs or toxins.
