Britannin is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been shown to have minimal toxicity in animals. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in HL-60 cells and to inhibit the expression of c-jun phosphorylation, which is involved in the apoptosis pathway. Britannin also induces autophagy and inhibits MMP-9 activity in Hl-60 cells. This compound may be useful for treating inflammation, cancer, and other diseases related to oxidative stress.
