Product Information
Name:Bis(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane
Brand:Biosynth
Description:Bis(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane is a chloromethylating agent that can be used to modify the surface of ceramics. It is soluble in organic solvents and can be used for nucleophilic substitution reactions. Bis(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane reacts with magnesium to form a magnesium chloride adduct. This reaction is faster than the reaction with other metals, such as aluminum and zinc, because it is more electrophilic. The reaction mechanism involves the nucleophilic attack by the hydroxide ion on the chlorine atom of bis(chloromethyl)dimethylsilane, leading to an intermediate that has a very short half-life (about 1 second). This intermediate then undergoes an elimination reaction with salicylaldehyde to form polyatomic molecules that are fluorescent.
