5-Bromo-2-methylpyrimidine (5BM) is a reactive chemical that can be used to synthesize other compounds. It reacts with aniline to form 5-bromo-2,4-dichloropyrimidine in the presence of catalytic amounts of concentrated sulfuric acid. 5BM can also be used as an analogue for the synthesis of various biguanides and pyrimidines. This compound is a precursor for the synthesis of 5-bromo-2,4,6-trimethoxypyrimidine via an efficient coupling process.
