Bis(hexamethylene)triamine is a reactive, cross-linking agent. It contains nitrogen atoms and has a hydroxyl group that can form hydrogen bonding interactions with the amines in proteins. Bis(hexamethylene)triamine is used in vivo to study the effect on hemolysis of various agents. The reaction products formed by bis(hexamethylene)triamine and amines are hydrochloric acid and fatty acids, respectively. Bis(hexamethylene)triamine also inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential.
