Description:1-Butyl-2-pyrrolidone is a nonpolar solvent with a high viscosity. It is used in the manufacture of polycarboxylic acid, which is a synthetic precursor to nylon. 1-Butyl-2-pyrrolidone can be used to synthesize amide. It has been shown that 1-butyl-2-pyrrolidone is able to cross-couple with calcium carbonate and dimethylformamide, leading to the formation of polycarbonates and polyurethanes respectively. 1-Butyl-2-pyrrolidone has been shown to react with chlorine atoms in sequences that are thermally induced. This leads to the formation of reaction intermediates, which are industrial precursors for nylon 6 and nylon 66 production.
