Bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-2,6-dione is an unsaturated ketone that can be synthesized from the reaction of ethylene acetal with calcium carbonate. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of apium and cerevisiae strains, as well as Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain. Bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-2,6-dione can also be used to synthesize a number of other compounds, such as petroselinum or constantin. This compound is a β-unsaturated ketone that is stereoselective in its synthesis and has been found to have biochemical properties.
