Benzenediazonium chloride is an organo-salt that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of infectious diseases. It binds to and inhibits the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, which is essential for bacterial DNA synthesis. The salt also reacts with human serum proteins to form stable complexes with a high degree of specificity. This process may be due to benzenediazonium binding to a specific receptor site on the protein. Benzenediazonium chloride has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the bacteria's ribosomes and inhibiting RNA polymerase. In addition, this compound can bind to DNA in a manner that prevents transcription and replication, leading to cell death. It has also been shown that benzenediazonium chloride can react with ester hydrochloride or monosodium salt esters in order to produce a reactive intramolecular hydrogen atom that can react with other molecules on the surface of cells, leading to cell death
