- Dodecanoic acid, 12-bromo-
- NSC 660375
- ω-Bromododecanoic acid
12-Bromododecanoic acid is a molecule that belongs to the group of fatty acids. It has been shown to be taken up by cells and to accumulate in lipoproteins. The uptake of 12-bromododecanoic acid can be inhibited by addition of cytochrome P450 reductase, which is a rate limiting enzyme in its metabolism. 12-Bromododecanoic acid has been shown to have photochemical properties, such as fluorescence analysis, and it has been used for immobilization and monolayer formation. This compound also reacts with argon gas to form brominated derivatives. 12-Bromododecanoic acid is not metabolized by the liver but does undergo rapid oxidation in the mitochondria, where it functions as a fatty acid carrier for long chain fatty acids.
