2-Bromo-6-methoxyphenol is an analog of galanthamine. It is a synthetic chemical that has been shown to have the same skeleton as galanthamine, but with a methoxy group in place of a hydroxy group. 2-Bromo-6-methoxyphenol can be synthesized by cross coupling zinc powder with tribromide and intramolecular hydrogen. This synthetic compound has been shown to have antihistaminergic activities and is used in the synthesis of maritidine. The compound can also be used to make analogs of galanthamine, such as 2-bromo-4,5-dimethoxybenzyl alcohol.
