It has been shown to be an effective desulfurization agent for crude oil and coal tar. 1,2-Benzodiphenylene sulfide is primarily used as an analytical reagent to detect various compounds, such as naphthalene, biphenyl, and fluorimetric. This compound is also used as an intermediate in the production of other chemicals.
