Barium fluoride is a compound that has been used as an analytical method for determining the concentration of fluorine in human serum. It can also be used to measure the fluoride content in dental materials and water vapor, and to measure the concentration of magnesium and calcium in human serum. Barium fluoride is created by laser ablation of barium oxide, which produces a particle with a molybdenum coating. The photomultiplier tube detects the radiation from these particles to determine the concentration of fluorine.
