Benzo[g,h,i]perylene D12 is a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that has been used in a variety of analytical methods. One of its most common uses is as an internal standard for the quantification of naphthalene in human serum. This compound can also be found in blood samples from typhimurium-infected patients after exposure to the pathogen and can be used to rationalize the concentration of the pathogen in these samples. The mass spectrometric analysis of this compound has shown that it consists of about 10 isomers with different chemical compositions and deuterium isotope effects.
