Bentazon is a herbicide that belongs to the group of phenyl-urea herbicides. It is used as a biological treatment in reaction solutions where terminal residues are desired. Bentazon inhibits bacterial growth by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins, which are essential for cell division. Studies have shown that bentazon can induce genotoxic effects on human cells and inhibit collagen gel formation, which is an important component of skin. The amount of bentazon required to produce synergistic effects with sodium carbonate is higher than the amount required for acute toxicities in wild-type strains, but lower than the amount required for chronic exposure in wild-type strains.
