1,4-Benzodioxan-2-carbonitrile is a benzene compound that can be used in the catalytic reduction of nitro groups. It is an effective and selective catalyst for the reduction of nitro groups in aromatic compounds. 1,4-Benzodioxan-2-carbonitrile is also used as an analytical reagent for determining aluminium and acetone. The hydrogenation of 1,4-benzodioxan-2-carbonitrile with aluminium and acetone produces 4-(1H)-benzodioxan in high yield. The reaction requires no additional acid or base and has been shown to be highly selective under mild conditions.
