• Description: 1-Benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide is a drug that has been shown to have potential in treating metabolic disorders by restoring the balance of nitrogen atoms. It has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the production of nitric oxide and other reactive oxygen species (ROS) which are involved in the pathogenesis of inflammation, septic shock and HIV infection. 1-Benzyl-1,4-dihydronicotinamide also inhibits light emission from cells. This effect is due to its ability to reduce the concentration of NADH and ATP, which are necessary for the light emitting reaction. The drug's mechanism of action is not well understood but it may be related to its ability to block dimethyl fumarate (DMF), an inhibitor of monoclonal antibody production. The physiological function of this drug is not yet well understood but it may be related to its ability to inhibit the proliferation of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
