Betamethasone 17-valerate is a synthetic betamethasone ester that is converted to betamethasone in the body. It is an anti-inflammatory agent that binds to and activates the glucocorticoid receptor, which regulates the transcription of genes involved in inflammation. Betamethasone 17-valerate has been shown to significantly upregulate the expression of squamous cell differentiation genes. This drug also inhibits toll-like receptor activation, thereby reducing inflammatory responses. Betamethasone 17-valerate has been shown to have significant antiinflammatory activity in animal models of bowel disease and soil ph, as well as in clinical trials for treatment of arthritis and psoriasis.
