Biochanin A is a natural compound that has been shown to have protective effects against neuronal death in vitro. It is a low potency inhibitor of GSH-px, which is one of the main enzymes involved in apoptosis pathways. Biochanin A has also been shown to be active against infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis, and has potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The biochanin A molecule contains three phenolic hydroxyl groups that can bind to the nucleic acids of bacteria and inhibit protein synthesis.
