Description:

1,2-Bis(2-nitrophenoxy)ethane is a chemical compound that is used as a solvent in organic chemistry. It has been shown to have the ability to remove pollutants from water through filtration. 1,2-Bis(2-nitrophenoxy)ethane reacts with thiosulfate and hydrogen to form bis(2-aminophenoxy)ethane and sulfur dioxide. This reaction is able to be reversed by adding nickel salts to the reaction vessel. The activated nickel catalyst oxidizes alcohols and solvents present in the filtrate. This process can be used for recycling these chemicals, which are hazardous to the environment otherwise.
