4-Bromo-3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde is a compound that inhibits the replication of cells. It has been shown to induce apoptosis and inhibit tumor growth, including skin tumors and malignant melanoma cells. This chemical is synthesized by reacting an acrylonitrile with sodium hydroxide in a biphenyl amide. 4-Bromo-3,5-dimethoxybenzaldehyde has been used to inhibit bacterial growth, but it is not active against Mycobacterium tuberculosis or Mycobacterium avium complex.
