8-Bromooctanoic acid is a chemical compound that binds to histone deacetylase (HDAC). It is an inhibitor of this enzyme. One study has shown that 8-bromooctanoic acid is a potent inhibitor of HDAC and can be used as a treatment for hyperthermia in rats. This drug has been shown to have binding constants with HDAC similar to those of trifluoroacetic acid, which is commonly used in the laboratory. 8-Bromooctanoic acid also inhibits the growth of Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae at physiological levels. This drug is not active against Trichophyton tonsurans, Trichophyton rubrum, or Candida albicans. The optimal reaction for 8-bromooctanoic acid occurs when it interacts with fatty acids and fatty esters. In order for this reaction to occur, the presence of a chemical oxidation catalyst such as trif
