5-Bromobenzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole is a fluorophore that can be used as a sensor for electrochemical studies. 5-Bromobenzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole has an electronegativity of 3.3 and an adsorption coefficient at pH 7 of 2.0 × 10 cm/g. It shows fluorescence in the range of 350-550 nm with an extinction coefficient of 6800 M−1cm−1. The molecular probes are able to bind to proteins or nucleic acids and are useful in optical techniques such as diffraction and fluorescent spectroscopy.
