1-Bromo-3-methylbutane is a colorless liquid with an unpleasant odor. It has a boiling point of 38 degrees Celsius and a density of 1.0 g/cm3. 1-Bromo-3-methylbutane is used in the synthesis of isovaleric acid, hydroxy derivative, thermal expansion, and hydrochloric acid. The activation energy for the reaction between 1-bromo-3-methylbutane and halides is 16 kcal/mol (18 kJ/mol). In addition to its use as an analytical reagent, 1-bromo-3-methylbutane has been shown to have tuberculostatic activity in rats infected with Mycobacterium tuberculosis and mitochondrial membrane potential activity in rosuvastatin sodium salt.
