Product Information
- 6-Bromo-o-toluic acid
2-Bromo-6-methylbenzoic acid is a heterocyclic compound that has been used as an antidiabetic agent. It is a hydrogen-bond acceptor and has been shown to inhibit the protein synthesis of cancer cells. 2-Bromo-6-methylbenzoic acid also inhibits inflammatory responses in animal models for arthritis and inflammation. The compound binds to the carbonyl group of proteins, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with hydroxyl groups on the protein. 2-Bromo-6-methylbenzoic acid has also been shown to react with hydroxybenzoic acid, yielding reaction products such as 2,4,5,6-tetramethylbenzene carboxylic acid. This compound is an intramolecular donor of hydrogen bonding but will not accept an intermolecular hydrogen bond.
