1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide is an ionic liquid that has been shown to be a good solvent for cellulose. It is also biocompatible and can be used as a polymer matrix for copper chloride. 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide has been shown to be a good model system for studying the interaction between ions and water vapor in liquids. It has been observed that 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide undergoes hydrogen bonding interactions with water molecules, which may provide the driving force for its solvation of cellulose.
