This elimination is followed by an acid-base reaction to form dibutyl sulfide. Dibutyl sulfide can be used as a fluorescent probe for identifying inflammatory bowel disease and bowel disease in mice. It has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in rats with inflammatory bowel disease.
