It reacts quickly at temperatures above 100 degrees Celsius but slowly at lower temperatures. 4,4'-Biphenyldicarbonyl chloride has been shown to have efficiencies similar to that of azobenzene in polymerizing terephthalic acid and morphology properties similar to those of poly(tetramethylene adipate) (PTMA). This compound also shows optical properties with a high refractive index, which makes it useful for lenses and mirrors.
