Description:1-Benzylimidazole is a potent inducer of cytochrome P450 enzymes and is used to study the binding constants of drugs in vitro. 1-Benzylimidazole has been shown to increase blood pressure in Sprague-Dawley rats. It binds to the active site of cytochrome P450 enzymes, blocking their activity and inhibiting the metabolism of other drugs. 1-Benzylimidazole also promotes apoptosis in HL60 cells by binding to cytosolic proteins. The binding constant for 1-benzyl imidazole was determined using magnetic resonance spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy on rat liver microsomes.
