2-Bromoacetophenone is a hydroxylated aromatic compound. It inhibits the production of prostaglandin E2 by inhibiting the enzyme COX-2, which is responsible for the conversion of arachidonic acid to PGE2. This inhibition may be due to 2-bromoacetophenone’s ability to form a complex with COX-2. The complex can prevent the binding of COX-1 and COX-2 with arachidonic acid, thus inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. 2-Bromoacetophenone has been shown to have cytotoxic effects on various cell lines in vitro, including human lung cancer cells (A549). It also has tuberculostatic activity and can inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex bacteria in culture.
