Description:
Bayogenin is a sesquiterpene lactone that has been isolated from the stem bark of the Asian plant, Phellodendron amurense. It is a potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis and exhibits anti-inflammatory activity. Bayogenin has been shown to have inhibitory effects on human serum p-hydroxybenzoic acid (pHBA), which may be due to its inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis. Bayogenin is also a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primer with high specificity for HIV infection.
