Description:Bedaquiline is a drug that inhibits the synthesis of mycobacterial RNA by binding to the ribosomal subunit. It is used to treat tuberculosis and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. Bedaquiline has been shown to be bactericidal against wild-type strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex, but not against multidrug-resistant strains of these bacteria. Bedaquiline also interacts with other drugs that inhibit the cytochrome P450 system, such as cycloserine or rifampin. Bedaquiline is active against MDR-TB but not against extensively drug resistant TB (XDR-TB).
