Boc-2-aminobenzoic acid is a synthetic amino acid that can be used for the synthesis of recombinant proteins. It contains lysine residues, which are often used in protein engineering. This product is hydrolyzed to form a chloride gas and a hydrochloride salt by the enzyme chloridase. The hydrolysis proceeds through an amine intermediate and proceeds with a rate that is first order in chloride gas and second order in Boc-2-aminobenzoic acid. The kinetic constants for this reaction have been determined using fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) spectroscopy on the solid phase.
