Product Information
- Boc-DL-Phe(4-I)-OHBoc-p-iodo-DL-Phe-OH(RS)-Boc-2-amino-3-(4-iodophenyl)propionic acid
Boc-4-iodo-DL-phenylalanine is a boronic ester that can be used as a precursor for the preparation of 4-iodo-DL-phenylalanine. The reaction is carried out by adding anhydrous hydrochloric acid to the ester and sodium borohydride in acetone with stirring. After complete addition, the solution is heated at reflux for 1 hour. The final product can be isolated from the reaction mixture by evaporating the solvent under vacuum and crystallizing from water or acetone. This process simplifies the synthesis by avoiding many steps such as purification of starting materials, isolation of intermediate products, and removal of unwanted side products. The reaction rate is also increased due to the use of sodium borohydride which accelerates the rate of hydrolysis in comparison to other reducing agents such as lithium aluminum hydride or zinc amalgam.
