7-Benzyloxytryptamine is a tryptamine derivative that binds to the 5-HT2A serotonin receptor. It has been shown to have antidepressant properties in ovary cells and other assays. 7-Benzyloxytryptamine acts as a psychostimulant and produces an increase in synaptic activity in the brain. This compound also has high affinity for 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) receptors, which may be responsible for its antidepressant effects. The compound has been shown to be selective for 5-HT2A receptors, but not for other serotonin receptors such as 5-HT1A or 5-HT2C.
