Description:5-Benzyloxygramine is an oxalyl derivative that has been shown to be a substrate for uptake by the acidic 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) transporter. It is also a substrate for acetylcholine esterase and has been used as a pharmacological agent in epileptic patients. 5-Benzyloxygramine is metabolized to 5-hydroxytryptophol, which subsequently undergoes oxidation to serotonin. This drug has been shown to have an affinity for human urinary bladder cells and may act as a stabilizer of this cell type.
