3-Benzyloxybromobenzene is a neurotoxic chemical that belongs to the class of opioids. It is an analgesic with a high degree of selectivity for opioid receptors. 3-Benzyloxybromobenzene has been shown to have neurodegenerative activity in vitro, and also inhibits monoamine oxidase (MAO) activity. This compound is chiral and has substitutions on the phenyl group, which can lead to different effects depending on which enantiomer is used. 3-Benzyloxybromobenzene has been shown to have no significant in vivo activity at doses up to 2000 mg/kg when administered intraperitoneally, but this dose may be toxic to the central nervous system (CNS).
