Name:6-Bromo-4-hydroxycoumarin
Synonyms:
- 6-Bromo-4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one
Brand:Biosynth
Description:6-Bromo-4-hydroxycoumarin, also known as BrHCC, is an organic compound that belongs to the tetronic acid family. It was first synthesized in 1891 by the reaction of ethyl nitroacetate and homophthalic acid. 6-Bromo-4-hydroxycoumarin is a valued reagent for the synthesis of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds due to its high yields, easy workup, and stereoselectivity. The synthesis of 6-bromo-4-hydroxycoumarin begins with the condensation of ethyl nitroacetate with pyridine in presence of hydrochloric acid to produce a mixture of methylene chloride and 4-hydroxycoumarin. This mixture is then heated at reflux for 24 hours. The final product is purified by fractional distillation.
