Description:
5-Bromo-2,4-dimethylpyridine is a potent inhibitor of human demethylases. These enzymes are responsible for the removal of methyl groups from histones and other proteins. The steric and electronic properties of 5-bromo-2,4-dimethylpyridine make it an attractive candidate as an inhibitor of human demethylases. 5-Bromo-2,4-dimethylpyridine also inhibits pyridinesterases, which may be due to its structural similarity to the substrates. This compound has been shown to inhibit histone demethylase activity in vitro and in vivo.
