1-Butyl-2,3-dimethyl-imidazoliumchloride (BDIMCl) is an ionic liquid that is composed of 1-butyl-2,3-dimethyl imidazolium cations and chloride anions. It has a melting point of -23.8°C and a boiling point of 114°C. BDIMCl has been shown to be a cationic surfactant with catalytic effect in reactions involving ethylene diamine and dodecylsulphate. The ionic liquid can be used as a fluorescence probe for chloride ions, giving it the potential to be applied in analytical chemistry, including microscopy.
