It reacts with amines to form active methylene compounds and can be used for the synthesis of choline. 2-Bromoethyl isothiocyanate has been shown to induce phytoalexin production in plants by activating the transcription factor Nrf2 through its chlorination of silicon. This compound also inhibits choline uptake, leading to a decrease in acetylcholine levels in the brain and increased aggressiveness.
