- 2-Amino-2-methylpropane

Description:Tert-butylamine is a tertiary amine that is used as a building block in the synthesis of other drugs. It has been shown to have enzyme inhibitory properties and has been used in the production of pharmaceuticals like doxepin, an antidepressant. Tert-butylamine can be synthesized by reacting methylamine with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a catalyst. This reaction produces tert-butylamine as well as hydrogen gas and formaldehyde. The formaldehyde can be removed by heating the mixture at high temperatures while distilling off the excess water.
