Description:

(S)-(-)-Butylene Oxide is a chiral epoxide that is used in the production of polyesters. This compound has an asymmetric carbon atom and can be used as a substrate for the reaction mechanism of methane monooxygenase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of methane to methanol. The orientation of this molecule within the cavity determines whether it will undergo bond cleavage or not, with a strain on one side and an alkene on the other. The reaction mechanism for this process is stereoselective, which means that only one product will be generated from each epoxide.
