Bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)cobalt (II) hydrate is a hexa-aqua salt of cobalt. It is an inorganic compound that is used as a reagent in analytical chemistry, specifically as a standard for the determination of the concentration of cobalt and its derivatives by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. Bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)cobalt (II) hydrate has two polymorphs: one at room temperature and another at lower temperatures. The room temperature form is mononuclear and tetragonally shaped. The low-temperature form is dimeric, with each molecule consisting of two pyrazolyl-type molecules bridged by two bis(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)cobalt (II) ions. This compound shows strong optical absorption bands at wavelengths of around 545 nm and 634 nm.
