4-Butylaniline is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 138.5°C and a melting point of -21.3°C. It has been shown to have exfoliating properties, which is the tendency for particles to come off in flakes or sheets when rubbed against another surface. This impurity is found in environmental pollution, such as cigarette smoke and vehicle exhaust fumes. 4-Butylaniline has also been shown to have protonation properties, which is the formation of an acid from a proton donor and an electron acceptor. 4-Butylaniline can also be used as an aminating agent, which is the reaction that converts primary amines into secondary amines by the addition of ammonia or an alkylating agent.
